Remarkable Skylight Installation in Portland & Vancouver
Portland gets over 150 cloudy days a year. A skylight or solar tube brings natural light into the rooms that need it most, cuts your reliance on electric lighting, and makes your home feel more open. Installed by roofers who know how to keep water out.
Natural Light for Pacific Northwest Homes
Skylights and Solar Tubes Installed by Roofers Who Understand PNW Weather
Living in the PNW means dealing with long stretches of grey skies and short winter days. A lot of homes here have rooms that feel dark even during the day. Skylights and solar tubes change that by bringing natural light directly through the roof and into the spaces where you spend the most time. We install skylights for larger rooms, and solar tubes for smaller spaces where a regular skylight wouldn’t fit or isn’t practical. Vented skylights are a great option for kitchens and bathrooms because they release heat, steam, and moisture through the roof.
Skylights for Larger Rooms
Fixed and vented options for living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and dining areas. Modern insulated glazing with low-E coatings for energy efficiency.
Solar Tubes for Smaller Spaces
Compact and cost-effective for hallways, bathrooms, closets, and laundry rooms. Quick installation with a smaller roof opening.
Leak-Proof Installation by Roofers
We understand how water moves on a roof. Proper flashing, sealing, and integration with your existing roof system keep everything watertight.
Skylight Installation in Three Steps
How We Install Skylights and Solar Tubes
From the initial assessment to the finished installation, here’s what the process looks like.
01
Assessment & Recommendation
We start by evaluating your roof structure, pitch, and attic space to determine what type of skylight or solar tube will work best and where to place it. We consider the room’s function, the direction the roof faces, and your goals for the space. You get a clear recommendation and a written estimate.

We recommend placement based on how the room is used, your lighting goals, and roof orientation

02
Roof Opening, Flashing, & Installation
Our Remarkable crew handles everything from start to finish, including cuting the roof opening, reinforcing the framing if needed, and installing the skylight or solar tube with proper flashing and sealing. For skylights, we build or finish the light well that connects the roof to the ceiling below, and for solar tubes, we run the reflective tubing through the attic and install the ceiling diffuser to bring the light into the space.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About Skylights and Solar Tubes
Straight answers to the questions we hear most from homeowners about having a skylight or solar tube installed in their home.
What's the difference between a skylight and a solar tube?
A skylight is a window built into your roof that lets in natural light and, in vented models, fresh air. It works best in larger rooms like living rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens. A solar tube (also called a sun tunnel) is a small, reflective tube that channels sunlight through your attic and into a room below via a ceiling diffuser. Solar tubes are ideal for smaller spaces like hallways, bathrooms, closets, and laundry rooms where a full skylight wouldn’t fit or isn’t practical. Solar tubes are also less expensive and faster to install.
Will a skylight leak in Portland's rain?
Not when it’s installed correctly. Most skylight leaks are caused by improper installation or deteriorated flashing, not by the skylight unit itself. As roofers, we understand exactly how water moves across a roof and how to integrate a skylight with proper step flashing, sealing, and waterproofing. That’s the key difference between having a roofing company do the installation and having a general contractor or handyman do it.
Do skylights help with energy efficiency?
Yes. Modern skylights with insulated glazing and low-E coatings reduce heat loss in winter and limit heat gain in summer. They also cut your need for electric lighting during the day. Vented skylights add passive cooling by releasing warm air that collects near the ceiling, which is especially useful in kitchens and bathrooms. University of Oregon research has shown that properly oriented skylights can contribute meaningful passive solar heating in the Pacific Northwest.
Where should I put a skylight in my home?
It depends on your goals. South-facing skylights capture the most direct sunlight and passive heat, which helps during Portland’s cooler months. North-facing skylights provide consistent, softer light without the risk of overheating. Kitchens and bathrooms benefit from vented models that release moisture and steam. Hallways, closets, and laundry rooms are great for solar tubes. We assess your roof structure, attic space, and your goals during the estimate and recommend the best placement.
